yikes!

There's a reason I haven't blogged before: I hate writing. It scares me. Some people write to release thoughts and feelings, but it has the opposite effect on me. The words I write form themselves into a sticky web that binds me down. Troubles become intractable, good things become trite, and anything even remotely political twist me up so much that I am in definite danger of spontaneous combustion. Like I said, scary.

But there is one area were I could use a little coagulation: creativity. I have hundreds of ideas that never see the light of day because I have no reason to commit to them. But if I tell even a small community in this blog that I'm going to make something, the odds are very good that not only will I start it, I'll finish it.

First up: Paint - Wild Pony of the Plains!
Paint_1_4

He's for this month's Wild West Month of Softies . Here's a head shot:

Sorry it's a little blurry. I like how the stitches come together to make a little blaze, and how the yarn greys out at the bottom of his nose. Just like a real pony! And you gotta love the mane. I think he looks like an equine version of Inuyasha. There's a different scenic action shot of Paint on Flickr . (Thanks to an extremely helpful customer service person named Ana).

I got the pattern from this book:

It's out of print, but you can still get it for collector's prices on Amazon. I got mine a little cheaper on eBay a couple of years ago, but it was still spendy. It was split into (or maybe started out as) two separate books: Knit a Medieval Castle and Knitted Gnomes and Fairies, which are much less expensive, but ten times harder to find. But I think it was worth it. I'm going to make some of those Ents for sure.

Love your horsey, I know what you mean about 'writing'. I get myself in a right tizz every time I post something, I worry about my grammar, my punctuation - etc, etc.
