Pointi_kitti
Little-known mascot for "A Flock of Seagulls".

Today's secret word is *adhesive.

A friend of mine - only a few weeks older than me - has a birthday coming up this week. She's been having a tough time of it, and I wanted to make her something that would remind her of our reckless post-art school youth in LA, before we got responsible and became wives (or not, in my case) and moms (or not, in hers). I was keeping an eye out for kitty patterns, but couldn't find anything quirky enough in my Japanese craft books. Then the generous Hilary published this pattern for free! Eureka! Thanks, Hilary! The eyes needed to be embroidered, of course (buttons don't have enough drama ;>), and I used very slippery turquoise satin instead of felt for the stripes. I didn't have the patience to stitch the satin on by hand, so I used fabric adhesive! *Those of you unaware of 1980's TV shows can see the reference here.

Pointi is off to New York, where I'm sure he will keep the New Wave spirit alive.

What a great interpretation of pointy kitty. Flock of Seagulls should be so lucky. That black and white fabric is really great, and the eyes are amazing.

Awesome! I just printed out this pattern yesterday and intent to make it when I get over my fear of the sewing machine one day.

Yours turned out ultra cute, and the eyes are awesome.

I love the blue satin lock of hair over the eye! Your kitty turned out great.

Oh, he's way cool, I LOVE the black & white fabric and the hair going over the eye-- great job!

Your kitty is amazing! Love the turquoise, black and white - the eyes just pop!

Turquoise must be the "it" color for now - seeing it everywhere - baby clothes, etc., because just bought the cutest turquoise and pink terry cloth dress hoodie for an upcoming baby shower.

P.S. - I remember watching Pee Wee Herman's playhouse in the 80's, too. HaHa!

AAAAAAAAAAAAA! YOU SAID THE SEEKRIT WORD!

I love the PeeWee set design - and also, the real design movement from the early 80s that's kind of similar, Memphis. (There's a lot about it in Jenette Kahn's book "In Your Space", which is really interesting and worth getting from the library - also, she's obsessed with Naugas and has a big collection of them.)

and I love Pointi too!
(must. learn. to. sew....)
