it's....it's.....

Ponyquilt_front

the....pony....quilt...[insert sounds of gasping and sputtering here]. Geez! This took long enough - it's been hanging over my head like a big pink cloud all year. As you can see, I didn't follow my original plan at all. Not only did I have a heck of a time finding fabric, I got all inspired by Lisa's pillows, and then discovered that the printed piece itself was very uneven. I spent a while thinking about how to even in out, but about a week ago I decided to throw precision to the wind and just go for it!

I wanted to put a paisley on the back to suck up some of the weird quilting on the front, but ran into the color problem again. So I chose tone over color, and found this great seventies-inspired Amy Butler print:

It doesn't match at all, but it blends. The stitching and piecing are really wonky, but after seeing a mini Gee's Bend exhibit, and reading Kim's post, I don't mind that a bit. It's finally done, and I like it a lot. It looks like a fairy tale.

OMG this is just Brilliant! I adore the colors and textures!!

It *does* look like a fairy tale. Look at those colors?! No wonder you had a challenge finding fabrics to go with it. The front looks as though it was made from one big piece of fabric to me (albeit, crazy fabric). Especially since there is that white frame-like bit in the middle of the pony tableaux. Not until I read the post did I realize it was all pieced. It really looks great!

I also like the idea of things not matching but still blending well. Not just colors, but people or things, even. You know, when you meet seemingly mis-matched couples or wear stripes with polka dots. "Blending" is a great way of expressing that kind of harmony.

I was also very inspired by the "just go for it" in Kim's post- but I am SO impressed that you actually did go for it and finish something up. I just added a quilt project to that list in my head of things I'd like to get to. Your quilt turned out wonderfully.

I feel lazy when I visit here. You take on such challenging projects! I just sit on the couch and doodle. This is gorgeous!

It turned out beautifully!

gorgeous quilt!!

That turned out great!

Hooray for you and your quilt! It is lovely and I really love the print you chose for the backing too.

Rose, you would never know you had a hard time finding just the right fabrics; I think your choices are brilliant! Congrats on completing such a huge project and having it turn out so lovely too :)

Gorgeous quilt ... very Indian inspired with jewel-like colors! :-) It looks like it's a small size, or is it? Will it be a wall-hanging, or grace someone's bed?

pretty, pretty!
