illustration friday

illustration friday: farm

If_farm

Squeaking in at the very last minute for this weeks IF. Embroidering pigs is almost as much fun as stitching chickens.

illustration friday: rain

If_rain

It's ironic that this word came up during the first of rainy Seattle's gorgeous rain-free summer weekends, but there it is. Lucky for me, living here, I love rain. This picture represents a few the many good feelings I get from rain - coolness, growth, energy....This is a three layer image: a photo of my side garden, a drawing of some plants, and a drawing of rain, digitized together.

illustration friday: dance

If_dance

Apologies to those of you who have seen this image before, but if I hadn't done it a few weeks ago, I would have created it for this topic. The base is a gocco print. This version is the "dancing colors" mix, inspired by some of my favorite movies.

illustration friday: jungle

If_jungle

I had originally wanted to print the drawings on fabric, and sew it together as a little quilt, but decided it would take too much time. So I scanned the fabric, manipulated it slightly, and added the drawings. I think I like this better than my original idea.

illustration friday: angels and devils

Lest you think I am casting aspersions on anyone, roll your mouse over the picture for the rest of the story.

If you are not arriving here from Illustration Friday, go check out the amazing new site design if you have a chance.

illustration friday: robot

If_robot

I LOVE robots, but then, who doesn't? When I saw the topic this week, I had thoughts of a grandiose master illustration....but I didn't do last weeks topic....so here's a bunch of little sketches I did during my breaks at work today. Robots are beloved in all art forms! Craft: Jess Hutch, Hillary Lang, and most recently - Mimi Kirchner; Film: Forbidden Planet, Miyazake's Castle in the Sky, and the best robot movie ever The Iron Giant (which my sister-in-law worked on)! And art - all of you Illustration Friday participants.

Have a good weekend, and Happy Earth Day!

illustration friday: speed

If_speed

A speedy little drawing of the speediest bird on the planet - 80 wingbeats per second, and 25 miles an hour. Not bad for a creature that's about 4 inches long! This is a marker sketch with a little motion blur added in for extra realism!

illustration friday: spring

If_spring

My illustration this week is actually parts from another project I'm working on at the moment. The background was gocco printed, the lambs are drawn free hand and pasted on. Happy Spring!

illustration friday: monster

If_monster

I thought of cute monsters, scary monsters, social commentary monsters, but just couldn't motivate myself to draw any of them. Then I saw the stormy lake and thought "good place for a sea monster"....aha!

illustration friday: feet

If_feet_1

Since I'm a map maker by profession, feet is a unit of measurement to me. And on a city map (which I usually work on), fifty feet is a very small portion of the map. So here's a tiny drawing on a spare piece of map. Still, in the real world, you can fit quite a few things, even large ones, into fifty feet.
